We care about our community

Chantry Vets have been an integral part of the local community for over 50 years. We genuinely care about our local neighbourhood and regularly support regional services and events. As such we have recently developed our Social Responsibility programme to demonstrate our commitment to the local area and its residents.

We pledge to offer an annual Veterinary Nursing Apprenticeship to a young person from the Wakefield area.

We will provide employment and vocational training in order to help our local school leavers find a sustainable career and practical qualifications.

We pledge to offer Work Experience and Mentoring to aspiring Vet Students.

Placements are offered to suitable pupils in order for them to ‘see’ veterinary practice. By providing these placements, students are provided with the guidance and encouragement they need in order to fulfil their ambitions and ultimately enrol at Vet School.

Careers Advice

We pledge to offer attendance at careers evenings for any local High School.

We aim to promote the veterinary profession to all young people, particularly those from less privileged backgrounds.

Grass Roots Education

We pledge to offer attendance at any local Primary School to discuss Animal Welfare, Husbandry and working in Veterinary Practice.

We believe that in order to improve the lives of animals we must educate the future generation of pet owners. As such we are happy to support our ‘Outreach to Schools Programme’, providing volunteer members of staff to attend local schools and engage children in veterinary related education.

Christmas Appeal

We pledge to provide an annual Christmas Appeal to collect donations for local rescue centres.

The Chantry Christmas Appeal has been in operation since 2010 and is always a huge success thanks to the generosity of our clients and staff. Previous recipients include Leeds Dog Trust, German Shepherd Welfare (Castleford), Wakefield Blue Cross, Leeds and Wakefield RSPCA and Yorkshire Cat Rescue.

Circus Starr

We pledge our support to the Circus Starr charity.

Since 2008 Chantry Vets have been in partnership with Circus Starr, helping provide free circus tickets to local children who are disabled, underprivileged or vulnerable. Each year we purchase tickets through the donated ticket programme, enabling some of the area’s most disadvantaged children to enjoy an unforgettable experience.

St Catherine's Church

We pledge our support to the Food Bank of St Catherine's Church.

In 2014 Chantry Vets began our Food Bank collection. National statistics show that some wards of Wakefield are amongst the most deprived areas in England. Food Banks provides local families and individuals on the brink of poverty with essential food supplies. Many of our kind staff members donate food for the collection and the overall amount donated is then generously matched by our Partners.

Macmillan Cancer Support

One of our Veterinary Surgeons Karthika Kanaga Sundaram will be 'braving the shave' to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support. Karthika will be shaving her head on the 16th September and is hoping to raise as much money as possible. Please help support her by liking and sharing her post. For those who are able; please consider donating to this amazing charity, who do so much for Cancer patients and their families. https://bravetheshave.org.uk/shavers/karthika-kanaga-sundaram/

Specific charity Events

Worldwide Veterinary Services - In January 2015, Worldwide Veterinary Services launched an appeal to equip a Veterinary Clinic in Malawi. To fundraise for this appeal and to buy much needed equipment, Chantry Vets ran a staff Bake Off event.
Our generous staff baked amazing cakes which were enjoyed by many.  In total we raised £125 to support the Malawi appeal. The Bake Off winner was Cheryl Murray our Clinical Staff Nurse for her delicious brownies!

Comic Relief 2015 - Several of our members of staff took part in Comic Relief 2015 and the 'Make your face funny for money' campaign.  Several challenges were set such as 'rescuing' jelly babies from a bowl of custard or removing tangtastics from jelly using only your teeth.  Staff members went head to head, with the loser paying a donation to Comic Relief.  In total we raised £40.00 which is enough to buy 16 mosquito nets. Pictured below is Staff Nurse Michelle Northrop-Walker after rescuing her jelly babies!
Yorkshire Air Ambulance Day -In July 2015 Chantry  Vets staff took part in a fundraising day for Yorkshire Air Ambulance.  Staff wore yellow t shirts from YAA for the day and took part in a bake sale.  The proceeds of the day came to £98.50 which will go directly towards funding our local air ambulance service. Pictured below is a fabulous cake made by Veterinary Nurse Claire Kellett which tasted as good as it looks!
Chantry Vets recently took part in Wear It Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness.  Below is the selection of baked goods and sweets that were sold to our hungry staff!
We also paid to wear a pink item for the day, ran a raffle and a sweepstake.  In total we raised £171.53 for a great cause.
